Leal Elementary serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Urbana, Illinois.  Teachers can be contacted by email. Most teachers emails are their first initial followed by their full last name and “@usd116.org”

Family Engagement at Leal Elementary

Utilizing current research and best practice methods regarding parent involvement and its positive effects on academic achievement, Leal School has established strong school, family, and community relationships. Parents are always welcome at Leal.  Parent volunteers are welcomed, and we have a volunteer/mentor coordinator to assist parents as well as a Family Liaison.  Every effort will be made to communicate with parents in a format and language that is free of educational jargon and easily understandable by all.

School Goals

By May 2026, reduced the chronic absenteeism rate by 10%(from 22% to 19.8%) from the 2024-2025 school year, as measured by Skyward. 

By May 2026, reduce the number of days missed by our Black Female students by 20% from the 2024-2025 school year, as measured by Panorama. 

By May 2026, the total number of classroom-based office discipline referrals (ODRs) will decrease by 5% from the 2024-2025 school year, as measured by school referral data.

By May 2026, the total number of classroom-based office discipline referrals (ODRs) for Black students will decrease by 10% from the 2024-2025 school year, as measured by school referral data.

By the spring of 2026, 55% of students will meet or exceed their projected growth in 1st-5th grade through targeted intervention and enrichment, continued implementation of CLKA, and collaboration with the CKLA coach.

By the spring of 2026, 60% AA students will meet or exceed their projected growth in 1st-5th grade through targeted intervention and enrichment, continued implementation of CLKA, and collaboration with the CKLA coach.

By the spring of 2026, 60% of students will meet or exceed their projected growth in 1st-5th grade through consistent tier 1 instruction with Illustrative Math and targeted intervention for number sense and fact fluency.

By the spring of 2026, 65% AA students will meet or exceed their projected growth through consistent tier 1 instruction with Illustrative Math and targeted intervention for number sense and fact fluency.
